Yup. Gatekeepers, Brand Champions, whatever you want to call them, the trust between consumers is huge and must always be respected.

My respect for Jim Balsillie just increased immensly. I think this is a really important initative, to get Canada on the world stage, something we are very much lacking in. I also would like another NHL team near the GTA (maybe a winning one, but I am a diehard Leaf fan).

Where are the synergies? It increases the potential life time value of customers, but is this necessary? Why try to compete with Walmart. When Walmart started to sell groceries, it makes sense. They already have day to day items, and they can gain a cost advantage. Can Canadian Tire take advantage of a syngery? An inventory counting system? I really cannot think of anything, other than a one-stop...

Don’t Be Evil? Google Uses Shady Ad Tactics To... →
Where do you draw the line? When does Google become so powerful that it is the force of the web? Maybe the police, maybe the dictator. I love Google, but I think it must be careful, especially as the web is essentially lawless (mostly).

Seth's Blog: Be careful of who you work for →
My current dilemma, finding a job when I graduate that works for me, not my friends or colleagues. My school has a lot of oppurtuinity, but I think lots of my fellow students will settle (especially in this market). Avoid it! You need to find the people you want to work for, and where you can grow. $80,000 + bonuses it not appealing to me unless I get to do something amazing, that might lead to 7...

Adapting to Change on the Reef →
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change” -Darwin I think this the key point to this post. Is your organization ready for change? Is the world ready for change? We have been talking about it for years, but there might be a revolution taking place right now.

The New Conspicuous Consumer | Marketing Profs... →
Quality and Value will be key to today’s consumer. Really tightening up communication and brand perception is key (but that should already be done!). Do it right the first time, and during a recession you will be fine. But I know I am thinking about purchases more and more, staying away from impluse.

Pow! Right Between The Eyes! Andy Nulman's Blog... →
An important point came out of this article, “One Pow! is easy.  But as I stress and keep stressing, the real power of Surprise is generating a flow of ‘em.” It is really hard to do this, but Shreddies is doing nothing but excellent marketing. It makes you laugh, and reminds you of a great product. With mature products, this is exactly what you want. It is hard to add more market...

We talked about passion in Entrepreneur class yesterday day, and this article, and my class hit it right on the head. Passion gives you teh drive to work harder, and gives you the ability to sell becuase you are authentic. It is hard to create passion, but if you have it, you can convert others, and then you are golden.

I have no idea how this is going to work in Canada. There is no quene jumping or anything. Maybe in Alberta where there is a two tier system, but still no idea. I also worry about MDs starting their own privatized firms and making a doctor shortage in Canada. But this has not happened yet, so it might be fine.
